Round Over

GROUP 1
Winner: Cristian Winder
Cristian left it late but squeezed through to equal Florian's tally of points and as he had beaten Florian in a three-set thriller earlier in the month, the group is his! It was a group with some notable matches - Florian was involved with another three setter with Peter and perhaps most notable of all, Harry Walker managed ("miraculously") to turn around his match against Peter having lost the first set 6-0. High quality tennis from a talented bunch of players.

GROUP 2
Winner: Ginés Haro Pastor 
Nothing much happened in Gorup 2 after mid February - we are not entirely sure why! But by then Ginés had the three wins that would carry him to the top of the table, including a great three-set win against the always-competitive Adam. Well done Ginés, and runner-up Tony.

GROUP 3
Winner: Thomas Fenal
Right up to the last moment, Richard could have come back to win the group but Thomas's late win against Michael pushed him into the top position. An exciting finish to another competitive group.

GROUP 4
Winner: Nigel Billen
This should not have been Nigel's round. He lost to Jane, he lost to Jens, he lost to Oliver and he lost to Vicky! But, he got a set off Vicky and one off Oliver. He got his bonus points... and yes, he beat Nick and Richard. The result - he sneaks another win! Well done though to Jane and Jens who were both just a match away from catching him.

 GROUP 5
Winner: Tim Human
It can be a strange old game... Francisco and Tim tied on number of wins and Francisco actually beat Tim, but it was Tim who earned his bonus points! Well done to Tim, a well-deserved winner of a highly motivated, competitive group. 

GROUP 6
Winner: Alessio Serafini
Well done to Alessio who played more matches and notched up more wins than anyone else in his group. For Pumbi in particular, it is a case of what might have been if he had got more matches in, but we won't let that detract from Alessio's well deserved win.

GROUP 7
Winner: Ruggero Frisina
It would have been fun to see the results of more matches in this group - winner, Ruggero had what he described as a 'great' match with Karen and you wonder what other classics got lost inthe wind, rain and snow! Ruggero's two wins put him on top of a group where in other circumstances, anything might have happened! Well done Ruggero.
GROUP 8
Winner: Juan Novoa
Wow, all his matches played, all won and bonus points too! Juan, having just missed out on thetop spot last time around, is a worthy winner this time, though praise too for Fiona and Jeremy who fought hard for their nine points and tied in second place.

 GROUP 9
Winner: Brett Galloway
Brett may have lost to runner-up Charles, but playing three matches by the half-way point proved a good insurance policy. His bonus points help him a comfortable win. This is my own group and I had some highly enjoyable (if unsuccessful) epics, including one perfectly timed match against Rosemary where the last ball was played as Dave switched off the lights. 

GROUP 10
Winner: John Porter
With a better win-loss record, and a win over runner up Ian, John takes Group 10 with three comfortable, straight-set wins. Well played (and to those with injuries - we all wish you speedy recoveries for the next round).

Group 11
Winner: Mariano Kalfors
Congratulations to Mariano who proved to be very competitive performer (but then he has been practising - playing also in the Haringey and Regents Park leagues!). After being pipped at thepost last time round, Mariano emerges triumphant!
